We are seeking a Lead Prosecutor to join our team at the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, Northwest Territories Regional Office in Yellowknife.

About the Role

The Lead Prosecutor will be responsible for conducting criminal prosecutions on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions on significant and complex cases related to personal injury offences, sexual violence offences, homicide, drugs, aggravated assaults, and more.

You will have the opportunity to gain a breadth of knowledge and experience as you work on a variety of prosecutions, acquiring immediate trial experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct criminal prosecutions on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions
  • Work on significant and complex cases related to personal injury offences, sexual violence offences, homicide, drugs, aggravated assaults, and more
  • Gain a breadth of knowledge and experience through working on various prosecutions
  • Aquire immediate trial experience

Requirements

  • Occupational Certification: Eligibility for membership in the Bar of Northwest Territories
  • Experience:
    • LP-01: Experience in making appearances in court as counsel, articling student, or law student
    • LP-02: Recent experience in the conduct of criminal or quasi-criminal litigation
  • Knowledge:
    • LP-01: Basic knowledge of criminal law and procedures
    • LP-02: Sound knowledge of the role and practices of Crown Counsel in criminal litigation
  • Competencies: Specialized Skills and Knowledge, Professionalism, Judgement, Practice Management, Communicating effectively, Interpersonal Relationships, Leadership

  • Estimated Salary: $82,430 - $158,449 (LP-01) / $114,884 - $158,449 (LP-02)
