About the Role

The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as a Housing Support Worker. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Indigenous youth and individuals experiencing homelessness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement personalized plans to support chronically and episodically homeless participants in achieving their goals and securing affordable housing.
  • Provide referrals to community agencies and resources to help individuals access essential services and support.
  • Work closely with Indigenous youth aged 16-17 who have entered into a Voluntary Youth Services Agreement (VYSA) to improve outcomes and increase resilience.
Requirements
  • College diploma in Child and Youth Worker, Social Service Worker, Indigenous Studies, or a combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of experience working within an Indigenous organization is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in working from a youth-centered approach.
  • Experience working with individuals who are at-risk, marginalized, or disengaged, including street-involved and homeless youth.
  • Experience using professional case management practices and holding a caseload reflective of the Indigenous Housing and Homelessness team mandate.
  • Knowledge of local Indigenous and non-Indigenous community supports and services.
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of trauma.
  • Experience in Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Valid driver's license with a clear driving record and access to reliable transportation is an asset.
  • A clear Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer.
