Job Title: Dean of Faculty of Law

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the role of Dean of Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary.

Job Summary:

The Dean of Faculty of Law will be responsible for leading the faculty in its academic and research endeavors, as well as providing strategic direction and oversight. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of academic and administrative leadership, as well as a deep understanding of the legal profession and its needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight to the faculty, including setting academic and research priorities.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the faculty's academic and research plans.
  • Oversee the faculty's budget and financial management.
  • Recruit and hire faculty members and staff.
  • Advise the university's president or rector on matters related to the faculty.
  • Direct research and curriculum development through subordinate staff.
  • Plan, administer, and control budgets for projects, programs, support services, and equipment.
  • Promote activities organized by the committees.
  • Recommend and approve faculty appointments.
  • Recommend curriculum revisions and additions and approve scheduling of courses.
Requirements:
  • Doctorate degree in law or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in academic or administrative leadership roles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of staff and faculty members.
