Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Education Specialist to join our team at Sylvan Learning in Kelowna, BC. As an Education Specialist, you will be responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning experience for students by teaching them using Sylvan program materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare for each instructional session by gathering and preparing materials as needed
  • Engage students and initiate instruction to personally connect with each student
  • Instruct students according to the design of the Sylvan programs
  • Manage students, tasks, and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session
  • Evaluate and record student progress on their program assignments
  • Use praise and encouragement to ensure students are motivated and inspired to learn
  • Motivate students with Sylvan tokens for specific achievements according to the Sylvan instructional management standards
  • Record and track tokens earned by students
  • Manage the conclusion of each instructional session and support procedures to ensure student safety and well-being
  • Communicate specific student needs to Center staff
  • Attend periodic staff meetings and complete ongoing training as needed
Requirements
  • Language Arts and Study Skills Program Teachers: Four-year degree or equivalent required, state or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired), and minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred
  • Math Program Teachers: Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 or more years of college-level math
  • SAT/ACT, Test Prep, and Advanced Reading Skills Teachers: Four-year degree or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge of general office equipment such as copiers, printers, and office phones, and knowledge of tablet computers preferred
