Welcome to Second Family Care, a dedicated provider of homemaker services to seniors in the Eastern Ontario area. Our team at SFC is committed to delivering high-quality care that meets the unique needs of each client, fostering a sense of community and support.



We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Homemaker to join our team in the Ottawa area and surrounding regions, including but not limited to Hawkesbury, Kingston, Cornwall, and Petawawa. As a Homemaker, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our clients and their families.



Job Responsibilities and Expectations

As a Homemaker, your primary responsibilities will include:





  • Providing housekeeping and home management services to clients, which may include:



    • Cleaning, laundry, washing dishes, and light meal preparation



  • Becoming an integral member of the homemaking program in delivering client expectations and needs

  • Applying critical thinking to address client issues and situations based on safety and best-practice principles

  • Communicating effectively with clients, caregivers, colleagues, and the office

  • Reporting any issues, concerns, or challenges with the office or supervisor

  • Delivering homemaking services efficiently within the scope of practice

  • Adhering to SFC's Homemaking principles, policies, and guidelines

  • Performing other duties as assigned that are reasonable within the scope of the job

  • Reporting regularly and in emergency situations to the office any emergencies relating to homemaking shifts that have affected the client

  • Assisting clients in maintaining basic home hygiene



We offer a competitive salary of $19.00 - $22.00 per hour, with the possibility of benefits for those who qualify. Our flexible scheduling allows you to balance work and personal life, and we encourage employees to provide suggestions for improving care and operational processes.



Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:





  • A high school diploma or equivalent

  • Hospitality industry training or experience, which is an asset

  • At least 6 months of experience in providing homemaking services to seniors in a community setting, with hospitality industry experience being an asset

  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, written, and reading comprehension

  • Good judgment, ability to work independently, and function as a team member contributing to the growth of the team

  • Ability to multi-task when delegated, flexibility, and ability to work all shifts

  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel within Ottawa

  • Good assessment and critical thinking skills

  • Oral and/or written fluency in other languages is a definite asset



Our working conditions require the ability to transport, lift, carry, or pull up to 25 lbs. or more with assistance. The estimated annual salary for this position is $39,840 - $45,760, based on a 40-hour workweek and the hourly salary range of $19.00 - $22.00 per hour. Please note that this is an estimate and actual salaries may vary based on individual circumstances.
