We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Estimator to join our team at Red Deer Ironworks, Inc. as a key member of our project costing department. As a Senior Estimator, you will play a crucial role in developing detailed cost estimates for various projects, including piping, machined parts, structural steel skids, and packaged assemblies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed cost estimates for fabrication and machining RFQs to support bidding activities.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to develop accurate and competitive estimates.
  • Review and evaluate historical data from past projects to improve accuracy of future estimates.
  • Effectively communicate relevant project information, provide updates to clients and project team as needed.
  • Ensure proposals are submitted on time and manage post-bid clarifications.
  • Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and risks during the estimation process.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to gather necessary information for accurate estimates.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases and tools to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Present estimates and cost analysis reports to management and clients.
  • Hand over awarded jobs to Project Managers and host handover meetings.
  • Post project review to ensure the project was completed within the originally estimated costs and time.
  • Document lessons learned to improve the accuracy and efficiency of future estimates.
  • Support project team with all change orders, including negotiating, processing, and assessing cost and schedule impact.
  • Identify and document opportunities for improvement for future projects.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in estimation software and tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience in steel fabrication estimating, strong knowledge of pipe fabrication and welding processes.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, including extensive experience with Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, multitask, and work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to be resourceful and solve issues that may arise.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with industry standards such as ASME B31.3, API 6A, ASME BPVC, AWS D1.1, NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, DNV 2.7-1, and relevant ASTM standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) - AACE.
  • Engineering technologist diploma or higher credentials will be considered an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) - PMI.
  • Experience with EPICOR or SAP ERP systems considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Solidworks, AutoCAD, AcornPipe.
  • Experience in estimating within the oil and gas industry.
