About the Role

The City of Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled Process Improvement Manager to lead business-related process improvement projects and manage multiple projects, initiatives, or events. This role will be responsible for assembling and managing project teams to successfully deliver assigned projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget and to a high level of quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Manage project teams, including internal and external hiring, managing performance, coaching, and mentoring, assigning work, and specifying deliverables, timelines, and quality expectations.
  • Project Planning: Plan projects in detail, clearly identifying project scope, budget, and schedule, as well as project risks, project organization, and project management approach.
  • Project Execution: Execute projects according to approved project charters, organizing and leading meetings with project teams, stakeholders, and vendors as needed, and managing actions arising from them.
  • Project Closeout: Ensure proper project closeout at completion, managing the sign-off process for project deliverables from stakeholders, organizing and conducting lessons-learned sessions, and documenting and presenting project closeout analyses.
  • Business Process Optimization: Develop future-state recommendations and build implementation plans for optimizing business processes and value streams, collect and analyze data to complete current-state analyses, and identify implications and make recommendations for changes in processes and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business Administration and a minimum of three years' related experience managing increasingly complex business process improvement projects, events, or initiatives, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Training and Certifications: Training in Project Management methodologies, practices, and processes, preferably consistent with those provided by PMI (Project Management Institute), Lean Six Sigma Black Belt/Green Belt Certification/Training, and Scrum Master Certification/Training are assets.
  • Skills and Abilities: Excellent leadership skills, ability to motivate, engage, and mentor staff, excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills, ability to analyze and solve problems, and ability to manage change and assist others with adapting to change.
