Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Housing Support Specialist to join our team at EmergencyMD. As a key member of our supportive housing program, you will play a vital role in providing respectful and appropriate trauma-informed care to individuals in need.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct service to tenants who have experienced homelessness, trauma, substance use, mental health issues, oppression, and poverty.
  • Develop and maintain a level of trust with clients to support their highest level of skill development.
  • Participate in EmergencyMD's Health and Safety programs and procedures to minimize risk to clients, staff, and others.
  • Collaborate with community resources to make appropriate referrals and provide support.
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in social or health sciences.
  • Two years' work-related experience, particularly with persons who experience homelessness, require supportive housing, or experience problematic substance use and mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of the Social Service system and Community Resources.
  • Working knowledge of the Social Determinants of Health and how to positively support tenants within those parameters.
  • Understanding of the importance of healthy diverse communities and community development approaches.
  • Proficient computer skills in various software platforms.
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset.
  • Valid Driver's license is preferred.
