Your Impact as a Housing Support Specialist
As a Housing Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in extending our mission to tenants within our HOMES program. You will provide respectful and appropriate trauma-informed & recovery best practices in a supportive housing setting. Your responsibilities may include case management, crisis intervention, and supportive counseling.
You will work collaboratively with a dynamic team of individuals to assist people in enhancing the dignity and quality of life for adults in a supportive housing environment. Your primary focus will be on empowering tenants to maintain their housing and thrive in their recovery journeys.
Working with Vulnerable Populations
This role involves working directly with tenants who have experienced homelessness, trauma, substance use, mental health challenges, oppression, and poverty. You will utilize best practices found within the Good Shepherd HOMES program to provide compassionate, non-judgmental, and patient support.
You will build trust with clients by involving them in discussions about their goals and recovery process, empowering them to reach their highest potential.
Your Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in social or health sciences is required.
- Two years of relevant work experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, requiring supportive housing, facing problematic substance use, and mental health challenges is essential.
- Knowledge of the Social Service system and Community Resources to make appropriate referrals is crucial.
- Understanding of the Social Determinants of Health and how to positively support tenants within those parameters is necessary.
- Demonstrated understanding of Harm Reduction best practices, including overdose prevention strategies, is required.
- Familiarity with healthy diverse communities and community development approaches is an asset.
- Proficient computer skills in various software platforms are beneficial.
- CPR/First Aid certification is essential.
- Fluency in a second language is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills are vital.
- Commitment to anti-racist practices and fostering an inclusive environment is expected.
