Job Summary
The Physiotherapy Assistant - Weekend Coverage will work as a member of the inter-professional team for weekend coverage, supporting patients with treatment modalities under the direction of the Physiotherapists. This role reports to the Manager Professional Practice and will primarily work on weekends covering acute medicine or general surgery units.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with mobility and maintaining/improving their functional level
- Support patients with treatment modalities under the direction of the Physiotherapists
- Work as a member of the inter-professional team for weekend coverage
Requirements
- Graduate from a recognized Community College OT/PT Assistant program
- 2 years acute care hospital based experience required
- Experience in medicine, surgery and geriatric care required
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- Ability to modify interventions quickly in accordance to changes in patient status required
- Ability to carry out directions of therapists
- Independent decision making skills required
- Exceptional patient centered care skills required
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to function as an effective interdisciplinary team member
- Willingness to participate/lead health service councils and professional groups
- Motivated to practice in accordance with the mission and vision of hospital/health service
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal development
- Evening and weekend shifts may be necessary
- Good work and attendance record required
