Job Summary:

The Nursing Coordinator is a key member of the Brightshores team, responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities on the medical unit. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to oversee the care given by other nursing professionals in the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate staff scheduling and ensure adequate staffing levels to meet patient care needs
  • Maintain equipment and supplies necessary for the delivery of care
  • Act as a role model for staff in promoting multi-disciplinary communication and coordination of care
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve patient care and safety
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless care transitions and patient flow
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to new staff and students
  • Participate in unit-specific projects to improve patient care and outcomes
  • Adhere to Brightshores' 'CARE' Behaviours and 'LEAD' Competencies

Requirements:

  • Ontario College of Nurses registration
  • Baccalaureate Degree in nursing
  • Oncology certificate
  • CC1 or equivalent
  • Experience in staff scheduling and knowledge of the ONA contract
  • Minimum 5 years recent medical nursing experience
  • Knowledge of, and experience with current legislation governing Nursing Clinical Practice in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Excellent assessment skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to coach and mentor new staff and students
  • Willingness to participate in unit-specific projects
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
  • Adherence to Brightshores' 'CARE' Behaviours and 'LEAD' Competencies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Oncology nursing experience
  • Experience in administering chemotherapy
  • Coronary Care 2
