We are currently seeking an Auditor to work as a valuable team member in the Assessment Services Department at WorkplaceNL.

The successful candidate will be responsible for auditing client financial information and records to ensure compliance with the registration and reporting requirements of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Act (the Act).

The Auditor will utilize their expert knowledge of the Act, internal policies and procedures, as well as generally accepted accounting principles to make independent audit decisions on behalf of WorkplaceNL.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will:

  1. Prepare working papers, documentation, notes, and system updates pertaining to the audits.
  2. Maintain the integrity and adequacy of the WorkplaceNL injury fund through proper levying of assessments and reduce the risk of exposure for under reporting and financial loss to the injury fund.
  3. Apply technical accounting knowledge, particularly as it relates to evolving business structures.
  4. Address complex and unique assessment issues that may not be clearly outlined in the Act or given policies and procedures.
  5. Perform audits in accordance with predetermined targets established by the Audit Team Lead and Management.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  1. A degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with acceptable specialization in accounting and a minimum of three years' experience in financial accounting and/or auditing. A professional accounting designation is considered an asset.
  2. Self-motivation with the ability to take initiative and action to pursue goals and complete tasks.
  3. A demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy to inform independent decisions.
  4. Well-developed analytical, critical thinking, sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills combined with a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  5. Sound organizational, written, listening, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  6. A vehicle and valid driver's license are required.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Estimated Salary Range: $65,000 - $90,000 per year
