Job Summary: The Executive Director will oversee the overall operations of First Adventure Child Development Centre, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintaining the highest standards of care and education. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and a deep commitment to the well-being and development of children. The Executive Director will lead the First Adventure Child Development Centre to achieve the highest standards of excellence, in all programs and services offered, as outlined in the organization's Mission, Vision and Values.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Reports to the Board of Directors- attends monthly meetings and advises the Board on compliance requirements and the operation of the organization and will implement all policies approved by the Board.
- Provide visionary leadership and direction to First Adventure Child Development Centre.
- Oversee daily operations, including staff management, program development, facility maintenance, and financial viability.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance the quality of care and education.
- Create a respectful, nurturing and empowering relationship in building and maintaining a cohesive team.
Staff Supervision and Development
- Recruit, train, and supervise staff, ensuring they meet the centre's standards and regulatory requirements.
- Is responsible for day-to-day decisions to support and direct staff, programs and the expansion of the organization's mission and pedagogical philosophies.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Foster a positive and inclusive organizational culture within the centre and promote teamwork, professional development and open communication among staff members.
Program Development and Implementation
- Oversee the implementation of age-appropriate curricula and experiences that promote the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of children.
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, adjusting as needed.
- Ensure the inclusion of diverse and inclusive practices in all programs.
- Implement innovative strategies to enhance the quality of care provided to the children and families.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
Financial Management
- Develop and manage the centre's budget, ensuring financial sustainability and fiscal responsibility.
- Oversee billing, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Seek funding opportunities and manage grants and donations.
- Liaise with all current and potential funders.
Growth and Sustainability
- Continue to contribute to growth and sustainability through successful enrollment strategies, community outreach efforts and partnerships with other organizations.
- Represent the organization in the greater community to further partnerships, advocacy, programming initiatives and actively participate in relevant community committees.
Community Engagement
- Foster positive relationships with parents, staff and the community.
- Promote the programs and services through outreach and marketing efforts.
- Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders and participate in relevant committees and networks.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Early Childhood Education diploma and a current member of the College of Early Childhood Education (in good standing) is REQUIRED.
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Additional certifications in leadership or management are an asset.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role within a childcare or early childhood education setting.
- Proven track record of managing staff and overseeing program development.
- Experience in a not-for-profit setting preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of leadership, management, operational/program planning, staff relations/development, community relations, advocacy and financial planning management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Financial experience with budget management.
- Effective written, planning, organizational, computer literacy and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
