Job Description

The Operations Director at Canadian Mental Health Association Mid-Island is a key member of our Management team and the primary organizational lead for Human Resources, Risk Management, and Reporting processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in planning, organizing, monitoring, and evaluating all aspects of the organization's operations.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Programs Director to develop and execute an operational strategy with prioritized objectives in alignment with the strategic plan and budget.
  • Ensure that legislative, licensing, accreditation, and insurance requirements are maintained.
  • Ensure staffing requirements are met through the entire staff lifecycle, from role development, hiring, orientation, performance evaluation, and management.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with CMHA Mid-Island's mission, vision, and values that promote equity, diversity, and inclusivity.
  • Identify service needs within the community and advise the Executive Director and Programs Director on opportunities for program expansion.
Community Relations
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with community groups, government agencies, funders, politicians, and other organizations to achieve common goals.
  • Participate in task forces, working groups, and other committees, as well as community events.
  • Promote CMHA Mid-Island programs and services in the community.
  • Act as an advocate for social justice within the organization, for service users, in the community, and at the political level.
Requirements
  • Experience in a nonprofit environment, social housing organization, or mental health association.
  • A background of working with unionized staff is an asset.
  • Knowledge of community, stakeholder, and client challenges and opportunities related to the mandate of CMHA Mid-Island.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation related to employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation, CPP, EI, health coverage, etc.
  • Leadership and management skills.
  • Strategic, operational, financial, risk management, and program planning skills.
  • Experience in human resources planning and management.
  • Experience in community relations and advocacy.
  • A strongly developed structural analysis of mental illness, substance use and housing precarity.
