Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Ensure proper portion control and safety precautions in assigned areas.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently, including documenting pot wash, dish machine, refrigerators, and freezer temperatures.
  • Deliver catering to assigned locations throughout the hospital, including pick-up of dirty dishes for ware washing.
  • Maintain food at proper serving temperature and observe time limits for meal serving.
  • Assist cooks with cleaning and preparing uncooked foods, such as salads, vegetables, and fruits.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate the dishwasher, and clean pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
  • Participate in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
  • Responsible for checking and documenting temperatures and/or taste of items being prepared and/or served, according to pre-established guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensure that only products with the highest integrity are used.
  • Responsible for proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and individual work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, place settings, utensils, chaffing dishes, flowers, and any other customer-specific requests.
Requirements
  • Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Must have Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and stat holidays.
  • Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Successful candidate must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
  • Experience working in a kitchen or food service setting.
