Job Overview

Microsoft is seeking an Applied Scientist to join our Ads Understanding team in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The team is responsible for developing and improving the Product Ads Algorithm & Infrastructure, which includes product ads selection, relevance, modeling, and online infrastructure. The successful candidate will work on cutting-edge algorithms, leveraging deep learning methodologies, and collaborate with a team of experts to deliver an amazing shopping experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and development on intelligent search advertising systems to mine and learn actionable insights from large-scale data and signals.
  • Drive algorithmic and modeling improvement to the system, analyze performance, and identify opportunities based on offline and online testing.
  • Develop and deliver robust and scalable solutions, making a direct impact on both user and advertiser experience, and continually increasing revenue for Bing ads.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field, with 2+ years of related experience, or Master's Degree with 1+ year of experience, or Doctorate in a related field.
  • 2+ years of working experience in statistical natural language processing (NLP) with latest deep learning technologies, including transformer and Large Language Models (LLMs), or Computer Vision (CV) with latest deep learning technologies.
  • 2+ years of working experience with coding in production systems using C++, C#, Java, or Python.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree.
  • Deep learning or machine learning experience with TensorFlow, Keras, or PyTorch.
  • Publication record in ML, NLP areas (CV also preferred).
  • Experience in online advertising.
  • Experience in parallel or distributed processing, high-performance computing, stream computing, and SCOPE.
