Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our team at Fraser Health. As a Community Mental Health Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing treatment and care management services to individuals with mental illness and concurrent disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with interprofessional care teams to provide person-centered and recovery-oriented care
  • Conduct mental health assessments, develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans, and administer prescribed medications
  • Provide direct nursing care to clients, including physical and psychosocial assessments, vital sign monitoring, and education on management and treatment of psychiatric conditions
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and their informal support networks
  • Document assessments, care plans, and client outcomes in accordance with practice standards and Fraser Health procedures
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing
  • Two years recent related experience providing treatment services to individuals with mental health and/or concurrent disorders
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a substance use certificate program
  • Eligibility for completion of the BC Provincial Opiate Addiction Treatment Support Program course and approved related preceptorship
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessments and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety-type interventions
  • Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment, psychopharmacology, and legislation and government policies and procedures related to mental health and substance use practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with clients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team
