Overview

School District No. 6 (Rocky Mountain) is seeking qualified individuals to fill Casual Education Assistant positions in the Kimberley Zone.

Salary and Benefits

As per the Collective Agreement 440, certified Education Assistants will be compensated at $29.37/hr, while non-certified candidates will receive $25.83/hr.

Job Description

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Teacher or Principal, providing support services to students with diverse abilities and disabilities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Participating in Individual Educational Planning, school-based team meetings, parent meetings, and other relevant activities.
  • Following student safety plans and adapting classroom materials as needed.
  • Providing instructional support, behavior management support, and record-keeping support.
  • Assisting students with personal care needs, such as toileting, dressing, eating, mobility, communicating, and facilitating participation in activities.
  • Working with assistive technologies, including computers, peripherals, and software applications.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A genuine interest in and understanding of students with diverse abilities and disabilities.
  • Initiative and the ability to work with limited supervision.
  • An ability to manage personal behavior in order to influence a positive outcome and de-escalate distress.
  • A high level of adaptability and responsibility.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and a flexible, co-operative manner.

You will also need to possess a High School Diploma or equivalent and appropriate post-secondary training, such as a Special Education Assistant Program or a diploma in counseling, social work, child care, or education. Successful experience working with students with diverse abilities or disabilities is essential.
