Job Summary

The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agricultural Meteorology Manager to lead the development and delivery of climate and weather services for the agricultural sector. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in advancing agricultural meteorology data and services, leveraging your expertise to drive sustainable agricultural practices and optimize agronomic outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement climate and weather-related tools and services tailored for agricultural decision-making, ensuring high-quality data collection and analysis.
  • Lead a team of specialists in the development and delivery of AgMet services, including data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
  • Provide technical input into the design and implementation of agrometeorological components of the Alberta Climate Information Service.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with industry and academic institutions to drive innovation in agricultural meteorology.
  • Ensure effective communication of weather and climate information to farmers and other stakeholders, including media interviews, regular online updates, and presentations to executive leadership.
  • Oversee resource allocation and overall management of the AgMet unit.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as meteorology, agriculture, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in agricultural meteorology, climate services, or a related field.
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with experience in team management and collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop effective solutions.
