Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operational Risk Manager to join our team at BMO. As a key member of our Operational Non-Financial Risk (ONFR) team, you will be responsible for leading one or more of our core programs, including Issues Management, Loss Event Management, ONFR Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and ONFR Risk Appetite.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership to strengthen our ONFR core programs and serve as a subject matter expert to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across teams to develop and implement policies, standards, and methodologies to manage operational risks.
  • Develop and monitor the operational management framework, including governance frameworks and practices.
  • Provide oversight, monitoring, and reporting on operational risks for designated portfolios.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of business and related risk management requirements and legislative/regulatory directives and guidance.
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to provide 'second line of defense' operational risk management support.
  • Monitor and track performance, addressing any issues.
  • Coordinate and monitor the review and sign-off of attestations and reporting.
  • Maintain tools and templates for operational risk programs, as required.
Requirements
  • Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth/expert knowledge of operational risk management practices.
  • In-depth/expert knowledge of the designated business/product portfolio.
  • In-depth/expert knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • In-depth/expert knowledge of quantitative techniques and economic capital methodologies.
  • In-depth/expert knowledge and experience with risk policy frameworks; quality control/testing frameworks.
  • Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience, and industry knowledge.
  • Verbal and written communication skills - in-depth/expert.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills - in-depth/expert.
  • Influence skills - in-depth/expert.
  • Collaboration and team skills, with a focus on cross-group collaboration - in-depth/expert.
  • Able to manage ambiguity.
