Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Safety Communications Officer to join our team at CP. As a key member of our safety and security team, you will be responsible for protecting the public, our staff, assets, operations, and reputation through effective incident management and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate calls for service by gathering information from reporting parties and identifying the nature of the incident being reported.
  • Respond to incidents by mitigating harm and making notifications based on current procedures and knowledge of police and/or railway functions.
  • Identify problems and patterns that may impact staff, public, and railway safety.
  • Provide support to patrolling officers by monitoring their status and handling radio communication.
  • Run investigative enquiries on Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), CPKC Police Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), and other databases.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 40 WPM typing speed with 90% accuracy.
  • Exceptional multitasking skills.
  • Able to work with and adapt to changing technology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain positive work relationships.
  • Able to solve problems and make decisions in high-stress situations.
  • Required to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • A personal disclosure form, pre-employment polygraph, and/or psychological testing may be required.
  • An enhanced security clearance is conducted prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education, diploma, or degree.
  • 2 years' experience in dispatch or equivalent high-pressure role.
  • Proficient with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, radio communications, and/or mapping applications.
  • Knowledge of police procedures and/or Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) experience.
  • Knowledge of railway operations.
  • Fluent in French and/or Spanish.
