Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Medical Information Officer to join our team at Northern Health. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for advancing the utilization of technology-enabled medical and clinical information management to improve quality outcomes for patients across clinical operations and team-based care.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in clinical leadership, experience with electronic clinical systems, and a proven track record of implementing strategies that focus on business goals, individual goals, and team goals. You will work closely with our Director of Clinical Information System and key clinical leaders to develop and implement strategies for the development, design, implementation, benefits, change management, and adoption of informatics solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical leadership to advance the utilization of technology-enabled medical and clinical information management
  • Develop and implement strategies for the development, design, implementation, benefits, change management, and adoption of informatics solutions
  • Work closely with the Director of Clinical Information System and key clinical leaders to ensure alignment with organizational objectives
  • Translate clinician requirements into clinician-useful information systems
  • Advise on strategies for the development and implementation of electronic medical records, electronic health records, computerized provider order entry, provider order management, electronic documentation, health information exchanges, virtual health, and other communication and information systems

Qualifications
  • Licensed to practice medicine in BC
  • Eligible for privileges and credentialing with Medical Affairs of Northern Health
  • Clinical leadership experience in the healthcare sector, including experience with electronic clinical systems, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Skills and Abilities
  • Broad knowledge of clinical practice and the roles of multidisciplinary healthcare team members within a patient- and family-centered care model
  • Ability to translate clinician requirements into clinician-useful information systems
  • Understanding and ability to apply the latest research on best-evidenced practices related to clinical information systems
  • Knowledge of patient safety/quality management, performance management, and accreditation standards
  • Ability to lead and move forward complex organizational change related to clinical workflow and process redesign that supports the adoption of technology-enabled solutions
  • Ability to advocate for and champion best-evidenced practice in the use of technology in the clinical environment
