Job Title: Fire Safety Specialist

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency is seeking a Fire Safety Specialist to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex construction documents, reviewing fire protection systems, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review building plans and property development proposals to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations
  • Conduct final inspections of new buildings to ensure transition to occupancy and HRFE's jurisdiction
  • Develop and maintain educational materials and procedures for communicating fire safety responsibilities to building owners
  • Provide technical advice and direction to architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Research and recommend alternate products, materials, and methods of construction for compliance
Requirements:
  • Level 2 Building Official Diploma of Qualification and ability to obtain Level 2 Fire Inspector Certification
  • Minimum ten years' relevant experience administering the Fire Safety Act and Regulations, Building Code Act and Regulations, and related legislation
  • Considerable experience reviewing complex building plans, such as high-rise and industrial buildings
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
