Job Summary:

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency is seeking a highly skilled Fire Safety Specialist to join our team. As a Fire Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex construction documents, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and by-laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review building plans and property development proposals to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.
  • Conduct final inspections of new buildings to ensure they meet fire safety standards.
  • Develop and maintain educational materials to communicate fire safety responsibilities to building owners.
  • Provide technical advice and direction to architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Research and recommend alternative products, materials, and methods of construction to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.

Requirements:

  • Level 2 Building Official Diploma of Qualification and ability to obtain Level 2 Fire Inspector Certification.
  • Minimum ten years' relevant experience administering fire safety regulations and building codes.
  • Considerable experience reviewing complex building plans, such as high-rise and industrial buildings.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and ability to complete a Criminal Records Check.

Working Conditions:

This is a permanent, full-time position with a salary of $98,685.90. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and may be required to work outside regular hours to meet deadlines and attend meetings.
