Operations Director Job Description

The Operations Director at Canadian Mental Health Association Mid-Island plays a pivotal role in our Management team, overseeing Human Resources, Risk Management, and Reporting processes. This key organizational lead collaborates with the Executive Director and Programs Director to develop and execute an operational strategy aligned with the strategic plan and budget.

As a leader in a mentally healthy workplace, the Operations Director must be able to 'walk the talk' and set the example. This role requires a strong understanding of organizational growth and change, as well as the ability to navigate challenges and opportunities in a community-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to direct the organization's business in accordance with legislation, regulations, bylaws, and policies.
  • Develop and oversee the board-approved annual budget.
  • Ensure legislative, licensing, accreditation, and insurance requirements are maintained.
  • Support a positive, healthy, and safe work environment.
  • Ensure staffing requirements are met through the entire staff lifecycle.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with CMHA Mid-Island's mission, vision, and values.

This role requires experience in a nonprofit environment, social housing organization, or mental health association. A background of working with unionized staff is an asset. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of community, stakeholder, and client challenges and opportunities related to the mandate of CMHA Mid-Island.

The Operations Director will be required to have a criminal record check and participate in meetings, conferences, and other events that may involve long work days, evenings, or weekends, as well as some travel. The compensation and benefits package includes a salary range of $97,209 - $139,738, extended health care, dental care, and vision care, guided by the salary range schedule for executive, management, and excluded employees provided by the Health Employers Association of BC.
