Executive Medical Director, Clinical Operations

The Executive Medical Director plays a critical role in integrating clinical programs and services across Island Health. Reporting to the Vice-President, Medicine and Quality, and working in partnership with the Executive Director, this leader is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of clinical programs and services in the assigned geographic area.
Key Responsibilities- Work in partnership with the Executive Director to ensure strategic and operational planning within clinical programs that maintains a patient-focused approach.
- Ensure that patient care activities are organized to ensure coordination, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality patient care outcomes.
- Ensure that all health services meet or exceed standards established by Island Health and/or those of appropriate professional organizations for quality and performance.
- Manage the organization and effectiveness of local medical staff and support the development and operations of the portfolio.
- Implement priority quality, satisfaction, and system improvement initiatives, including utilization management systems.
- Implement assigned elements of the physician resource management plan to assure necessary and appropriate service continuity.
- Participate in establishing, monitoring, and allocating financial targets.
- Work in collaboration with other Executive Medical Directors to ensure integration of services.
- Support the development, acquisition, and diffusion of knowledge within the organization.
- Monitor and be accountable for compliance with ethical and legal requirements, accreditation standards, and Provincial and Federal legislation and regulations.
- Work in collaboration with the medical staff organization and the Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee on the development and promotion of medical standards, education, and research.
The successful candidate will possess excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a complex and dynamic environment. A strong understanding of clinical programs and services, as well as experience in strategic planning and operational management, is essential.
