We are seeking a highly skilled Senior HR Generalist to join our team in the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences at McMaster University. As a key member of our HR team, you will play a crucial role in providing strategic human resources advice and support to faculty and staff across the department.

 

About the Role

 

This is a full-time position that requires a strong background in human resources management, with a focus on recruitment, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training and development, health and safety, and organizational development. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance to faculty and staff on HR-related matters, as well as developing and implementing HR policies and procedures to support the department's goals and objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide HR advisory services to faculty and staff, including recruitment and selection, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training and development, health and safety, and organizational development.
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures to support the department's goals and objectives.
  • Manage employee data and maintain accurate records, including personnel files, performance evaluations, and leave balances.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Contribute to the development of business plans, prioritize projects, and allocate resources effectively.

 

Requirements

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in human resources generalist role, including supervisory experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of human resources practices, total compensation, health and safety, HR planning, recruitment and selection, training and development, organizational effectiveness, employee and labour relations, HR information management, and relevant legislation.
  • A strong understanding of the University's policies and procedures, collective agreements, and relevant external legislation.
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills, interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and manage competing demands.

 

Salary

 

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
