At LHH Knightsbridge, we're seeking an exceptional Chief Commissioner to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the Ontario Energy Board's adjudicative functions and make a meaningful impact on the province's natural gas and electricity sectors.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be accountable for ensuring the efficient, timely, and dependable performance of the OEB's adjudicative functions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishing Panels of Commissioners: Lead the formation of panels to preside over rate, facility, utility consolidation, and market-related applications, as well as enforcement matters.
  • Rendering Decisions: As a member of panels, deliver high-quality decisions on applications in accordance with legislative requirements, administrative law, and the principles of natural justice.
  • Training and Development: Plan and ensure the delivery of training and professional development for Commissioners individually and as a group.

In this role, you'll also support the introduction of efficiencies and innovation in the adjudicative process and policy matters. You'll work closely with OEB staff to develop regulatory policy and provide advice on other matters affecting the sector.

Requirements

To succeed in this position, you'll need:

  • Academic Qualifications: Ideally, you'll have a background in natural gas or power operations/engineering, energy system planning, or law/administrative law.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in one or more areas such as economics, finance/business management, consumer/public interest, Indigenous consultation, environmental/energy efficiency, or the Four D's (Decarbonization, Democratization, Digitalization, Decentralization) would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with the OEB, its mandate, and the regulatory environment in Ontario is essential.

A strong understanding of economic regulation, administrative law, and the principles of natural justice is also required. Additionally, experience in making and communicating complex decisions, balancing stakeholder interests, and addressing contentious matters in a quasi-judicial setting would be valuable assets.

This is a full-time position with an estimated annual salary range of $180,000-$220,000, commensurate with experience, based on industry standards in Ontario.
