Job Summary:

The Medical Radiation Technologist – Nuclear Medicine is a crucial member of the Diagnostic Imaging Department, responsible for the efficient and effective completion of ordered Nuclear Medicine examinations and daily operation of the assigned area. This role involves the safe dispensing of controlled energy sources, including ionizing radiation, adhering to the Regulated Health Professional Act.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform imaging, in-vivo non-imaging, and in-vitro procedures under the direction of the Technical Supervisor and Medical Directors.
  • Conduct quality assurance procedures and report significant changes.
  • Provide patient preparation and care.
  • Prepare and dispense radiopharmaceutical kits and generators.
  • Administer radiopharmaceutical doses with proper venipuncture and maintain records.
  • Maintain radiopharmaceutical laboratory operations, including receiving, logging, storing, and disposal.
  • Follow protection procedures and adhere to AECB rules and regulations.
  • Perform decontamination procedures.
  • Care and maintenance of equipment and work areas.
  • Assist in organizing daily workload.
  • Perform general office duties.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Graduation from an Accredited School of Medical Radiation Technology (Nuclear Medicine).
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario.
  • Registration in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
  • Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge and Competencies:

  • Scintillation cameras.
  • Survey meters.
  • Scintillation counters and probes.
  • Dose calibrators.
  • Computer systems.
  • Sound knowledge of Nuclear Medicine procedures, including Cardiac exams and persantine studies.
