Excavation Operator

As a key member of our team at Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd., the Excavator Operator - Underground will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our excavation equipment. Reporting to a Foreman, this individual will be responsible for performing duties as assigned to deliver completed work according to our company policies and procedures, Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, and contract specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate excavators and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner, adhering to company policies and industry standards.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, clean, lubricate, and refuel as necessary to maintain equipment in good working condition.
  • Ensure trenches are excavated to the proper depth and grade, meeting or exceeding OH&S requirements.

Work Environment/Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, exposing the individual to various weather conditions, heat, humidity, and dust.
  • Must be physically able to lift and carry at least 20 LBS on an occasional basis.
  • Valid Class 5 Operator's License and a clean Driver Abstract are required.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; experience in related construction activities is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years' experience operating an excavator is required.
  • Valid Class 5 Operator's License and a clean Driver Abstract are mandatory.
  • Knowledge of underground utility installation, processes, materials, industry standards, and OH&S requirements is essential.
  • A valid Ground Disturbance certificate is also required.
