Reporting to the Foreman, this position requires a high level of skill and attention to detail to deliver high-quality work that meets the company's policies and procedures, as well as Alberta Occupational Health and Safety and contract specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate excavators and other heavy equipment in a safe and controlled manner, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent accidents.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, clean, lubricate, and refuel as necessary to ensure smooth operation.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to understand and interpret work requirements and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Excavate trenches safely and efficiently, meeting OH&S requirements and company standards.
  • Utilize computerized controls and electronics to optimize equipment performance and efficiency.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Class 5 Driver's License with a clean Driver's Abstract (as per Company policy).
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience operating excavators and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of underground industry standards and OH&S requirements.

Working Environment:

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, exposed to various weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and inclement weather.
  • Must be physically able to lift and carry at least 30 LBS regularly.
  • Possible out-of-town and weekend work as required.
