Excavator Operator Position

As an Excavator Operator for Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd., you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an excavator. Your duties will include performing daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment, conducting pre-operational checks, and cleaning and lubricating equipment as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate an excavator and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate and refuel equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure trenches are excavated safely to the proper depth/grade.
  • Cut grade with minimal time spent on excavating to ensure production is on schedule.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of excavator operation and other heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of underground utility construction.
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
  • Understanding of DEF systems and operation standards.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 30 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Possible out of town and weekend work as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Class 5 Driver's License with a clean Driver's Abstract is preferred.
  • Minimum 1 – 3 years of experience operating an excavator is required.
  • Knowledge of underground industry standards, and OH&S requirements.
