Occupational Therapist Role in Nova Scotia Healthcare

The Occupational Therapist role at Nova Scotia Health is a dynamic position that requires collaboration with clients, caregivers, and families to facilitate optimal function in self-care, productivity, and leisure areas.
As an Occupational Therapist, you will work under the supervision of the Health Services Manager, providing consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up services within hospitals, clients' homes, and communities.
You will establish individualized treatment plans and goals, manage a busy caseload, and utilize clinical judgment and decision-making skills to prioritize daily issues. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are essential for this role.
The Occupational Therapist provides education and support to clients, families, and caregivers, functioning as a member of an occupational therapy clinical team and a multidisciplinary hospital and/or community healthcare team.
About You- A graduate of a C.A.O.T recognized School of Occupational Therapy
- Licensed with College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS)
- Two years relevant experience required
- Maintain current certification in CPR
- Knowledge and understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)
- Counselling skills required
- Demonstrated experience conducting both individual and group treatment
- Ability to reach a joint formulation with the client and family
- Familiarity with various psychotherapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution focused therapy, and/or motivational interviewing
- Ability to demonstrate effective time management and disciplined self-organization
- Awareness of local community resources and agencies would be an asset
- Self-directed in practice with an ability to work independently and as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team while dealing with challenging clinical situations and crises
- Excellent communication skills
- Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS) certification an asset
- Demonstrated experience in conducting functional assessments and writing reports
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from $33.97 to $42.89 hourly, depending on their level of experience.
