Medical Laboratory Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will work collaboratively with our team to perform various functions related to the pre and post-analytical phases of testing. These functions include specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, sterilization, clerical duties, and loading specimens on an analyzer. Additional responsibilities may include supply management, troubleshooting, and customer service activities.
Positive patient identification and accurate specimen handling are essential to this role. You will be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and/or holidays, and may be required to interact with various stakeholders and clients. Incumbents must adhere to all applicable NSH/PLM policies and procedures, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
About YouWe are looking for a candidate with a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, and who has successfully completed the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and has current registration with CSMLS. Strong written and verbal communication skills, basic understanding of medical terminology, and manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects are also essential. Basic computer skills, Meditech experience is preferred, and access to reliable transportation as travel may be required. Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
HoursThis is a long assignment, full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly. The start date is as soon as possible and the end date is January 2026. Dates are approximate and subject to change.
Compensation and BenefitsThe hourly rate for this position is $26.27. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
