About Foundry
Foundry is a provincial initiative to expand access to mental health care, substance use services, primary care, social services, and peer supports for young people across BC. By bringing together a variety of health and social services under one roof, Foundry helps young people get the help they need when they need it.
Job Summary
The Peer Support/Outreach Worker is a member of the Foundry Penticton Team and offers peer-based mentoring and emotional support to young people ages 12-24. This role involves sharing information and a lived experience perspective to support youth engagement and participation in centre activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide peer-based mentoring and emotional support to young people ages 12-24.
- Work collaboratively with youth, their families, allies, and other service providers to support engagement and participation in centre activities.
- Organize and facilitate groups, events, and workshops for young people in Penticton.
- Assist with the delivery of peer-based services and maintain related records and documents.
- Attend and participate in team meetings, case conferences, and Centre initiatives.
Requirements
- Grade 12 plus recent, related experience working with youth or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use, completion of/eligible for completion of a recognized youth peer support training program, and willingness to self-identify and share experience.
- Computer skills, Microsoft Teams, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media.
- High degree of self-awareness and capacity to apply appropriate boundaries and maintain confidentiality.
- Well-developed communication skills: ability to speak, listen, and write clearly, thoroughly, and professionally.
- Empathic, compassionate, with good listening skills and creative thinking.
Other Requirements
- Clear criminal records check.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver license, a reliable vehicle, and clean driver record.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR.
- Flexible work schedule.
