The City of Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled Urban Forestry Safety and Training Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our Board of Parks & Recreation, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our staff and the public.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, rules, and procedures related to urban forestry operations.
- Provide safety and best practice consultation services to supervisors and management within Urban Forestry Operations and Park Operations.
- Conduct comprehensive onsite risk assessments and safety studies, and develop related safe work procedures, safety manuals, and training programs.
- Investigate safety incidents and concerns, and provide recommendations to management on improving safety protocols.
- Develop and deliver safety and operational training programs for staff, and oversee the Occupational First Aid, Aerial and Bucket Rescue, ISA, and TRAQ training programs.
- Maintain a workplace accident database and related records, and prepare correspondence and reports as required.
- Completion of a recognized certificate/diploma program in occupational health and safety, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in urban forestry or park operations.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, rules, and procedures related to urban forestry operations.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, speak effectively before groups, and design training courses with theory and practical components.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision, and communicate well both verbally and in writing.
- Skilled in the use of computers, and able to adapt to new technology and learn new programs quickly.
