Main Purpose and Function

The Urban Forestry Safety and Training Advisor plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees within the Urban Forestry Operations and Park Operations departments. This position is responsible for monitoring regulatory compliance and providing expert advice on safety best practices to supervisors and management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and safety studies to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Develop and implement safety training programs for employees, including workshops, training sessions, and online courses.
  • Investigate safety incidents and concerns, documenting events and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement policies and procedures related to safety and compliance.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records of safety incidents, training programs, and compliance activities.
  • Provide expert advice on safety best practices and regulatory requirements to supervisors and management.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in regulatory requirements and industry best practices, applying this knowledge to improve safety and compliance within the department.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A recognized certificate or diploma in occupational health and safety, or equivalent experience in urban forestry or park operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, rules, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.
