Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to join our team at the Provincial Health Services Authority. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the laboratory team by performing a variety of tasks related to data entry, specimen processing, and laboratory testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process patient test requisitions, ensuring accurate and timely entry of patient information into the laboratory information system.
- Collect and process laboratory specimens, including blood and urine samples, for testing and analysis.
- Prepare and label specimens for testing, ensuring accurate and complete information is provided.
- Perform data entry and record-keeping tasks, including logging test results and maintaining accurate records.
- Assist with the processing and distribution of laboratory reports, ensuring timely and accurate delivery to healthcare providers.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities, including the maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory, including providing support during peak periods and assisting with special projects.
Requirements
- Grade 12 and completion of a recognized laboratory assistant training program, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year of recent experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in a data entry or specimen processing role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the role, including standing for long periods and lifting specimens.
