Laboratory Assistant Data Entry Clerk, Multi Functional Lab Core Lab

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Assistant Data Entry Clerk to join our team at the Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services (PLMS). As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality data entry services, ensuring accurate and timely processing of laboratory results.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process laboratory test requisitions, ensuring accurate patient demographics and physician signatures.
- Enter data into the computer system, printing labels and affixing them to requisitions as required.
- Explain laboratory procedures to patients and respond to routine inquiries.
- Collect blood specimens from patients, labeling and disposing of sharps as necessary.
- Prepare specimens for analysis, including centrifugation and blood film preparation.
- Process specimens, sorting and labeling for testing, logging data into the computer database, and batching for distribution.
- Send specimens to referral laboratories, logging required information into the computer database and packaging according to legislated requirements.
- Perform receptionist duties, including answering telephones, responding to inquiries, and relaying messages.
- Print labels, computer-generated blood collection lists, and various reports, sorting and distributing laboratory reports to physicians and nursing staff as requested.
- Maintain work area, cleaning blood collection baskets, wiping counters and workbenches with disinfectant, and defrosting fridges.
- Schedule and book patient appointments using a computerized scheduling system.
- Perform ECG testing, attaching electrodes to patients, running the ECG, and printing reports for designated personnel.
Requirements
- Grade 12 and successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, as per TRC (2015), and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
