Job Summary

The First Nations Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Regional Community Coordinator, Child to join our team. This role will provide support to First Nations communities and the regional mental health and wellness team in the implementation of various approaches and projects related to the Aboriginal Youth Suicide Prevention Strategy (NAYSPS) and other initiatives that promote youth wellness.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Act as a youth engagement partner, working within communities to gather information and identify current needs related to youth and child initiatives.
  2. Attend community meetings and wellness tables, gathering and relaying information to program leaders.
  3. Establish new youth community networks and develop mental health presentations for Indigenous culture camps.
  4. Speak at conferences and host workshops related to Indigenous culture and suicide intervention skills training.
  5. Provide coordination and program delivery support to youth and child programs, working with internal and external program leaders.
  6. Work with the FNHA mental health team to receive community requests around child and youth-based initiatives, providing support and ensuring services are aligned and not duplicated.
  7. Provide information on community youth perspectives to support improvements in training and child and youth initiatives/programs.
  8. Participate in community and sub-regional or Nation Mental Health program projects, providing coordination support to ensure projects are on track.
  9. Act as a point of contact for community partners, providing information related to child and youth program resources, program communications, engagement opportunities, or other related matters.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or Psychology, plus recent and relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. They will also have experience working with First Nations and interacting with children, youth, and families.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

The successful candidate will have knowledge of First Nations cultural principles and protocols, BC health systems and services, community planning and systems-based child and youth care, program planning, implementation, management, and evaluation, risk and protective factors related to suicide, and best and promising practices related to community-based suicide prevention with an emphasis on life promotion.
