About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Assistant Builder to join our team at Mattamy Homes. As an Assistant Builder, you will play a key role in ensuring the timely construction of homes within budget and to company high quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Builder in overseeing the construction process, ensuring that all homes are completed to the highest standards.
  • Coordinate with trades, suppliers, and staff to ensure efficient and safe construction processes.
  • Monitor daily trade functions, including timeliness, quality of workmanship, and completion of work.
  • Conduct frame checks on each unit prior to drywall and follow up to ensure timely completion of any items noted.
  • Assist in scheduling and conducting homeowner frame walks.
  • Supervise on-site construction staff, including scheduling subcontractors and suppliers, resolving day-to-day problems, and inspecting work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Communicate and coordinate activities with trade partners to ensure smooth production operations.
  • Assist in ordering materials required for construction.
  • Ensure all work is done in a safe manner and enforce safety standards and laws within the scope of authority.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education or community college in a related field (e.g. Construction Engineering Technology) or suitable combination of education and relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum 1-2 years' experience in the homebuilding industry in the absence of post-secondary education.
  • Valid driver's license and regular access to a vehicle.
  • Experience using BuildPro is considered an asset.
  • Good technical understanding of homebuilding.
  • Intensely focused on delivering a quality product and taking pride in building a QA-ready home.
  • Basic understanding of Ontario Building Codes and Health & Safety regulations.
  • Ability to recognize and solve problems, take initiative, and seek direction from direct supervisor when uncertain.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Self-started who leads by example and assumes responsibility for results.
  • Good organizational skills and experience using basic tools such as to-do lists, day timer, logbook, and daily follow-up.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
