Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our team at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate School Division.

Job Summary:

The Learning Support Assistant will provide assistance to children with various degrees of need in the learning environment under the direction and supervision of the Inclusive Education Liaison, the classroom teacher, and the principal.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized support to students with special needs in a classroom setting.
  • Assist students with daily living skills, such as using the washroom and eating.
  • Help students with physical disabilities to participate in activities and access the curriculum.
  • Support students with emotional and behavioral challenges to manage their behavior and develop coping strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans.
  • Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents to ensure a smooth and supportive learning environment.
Requirements:
  • Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one-year experience working with students with special programming needs.
  • First Aid training.
  • Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments Training (SIVA) Certificate.
  • Training and experience with augmentative communication systems.
  • Experience working on academic goals with students who have multiple barriers.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Brain Story Certification through Alberta Family Wellness training.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
