About the Role

As a Funeral Director at SCI, you will provide exceptional customer service to families and individuals in need of funeral arrangements, cremation ceremonies, and interment services. Your primary responsibility will be to implement the choices made by families or legal representatives regarding the funeral, final disposition of the body, and memorialization of the individual.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service in all areas of funeral arrangements, cremation ceremonies, and interment services.
  • Implement choices made by families or legal representatives regarding the funeral, final disposition of the body, and memorialization of the individual.
  • Interact with families to fulfill death care needs.
  • Execute tasks on call, including taking initial calls, speaking with families, responding to questions, providing initial information, and directing transfers.
  • Supervise the care and handling of the deceased with respect, while performing a variety of tasks such as verifying identification and obtaining embalming authorization, embalming, dressing, hairstyling, and makeup, preparing caskets and urns.
  • Organize and direct funerals and memorial services in a professional and organized manner, with empathy, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Negotiate and create funeral contracts.
  • Manage contracts, legal documents, and payments in accordance with company policies.
  • Ensure families are aware of special services offered for veterans and are executed as requested.
  • Organize the burial or cremation of the remains.
  • Confirm authorization to execute funeral arrangements.
  • Supervise funeral services, assist with funeral services: coordinate vehicle parking, guide guests, drive funeral vehicles, attend chapel, religious services, and cemetery, deliver flowers, caskets, urns, photos, and other family keepsakes, and also install and replace chairs, and participate in special activities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations from various levels of professional, municipal, provincial, and federal authorities.
  • In the absence of the funeral pre-arrangement counselor, provide after-death services.
  • Ensure potential references are communicated to funeral pre-arrangement counselors.
  • Prepare and complete online documents and forms related to services, cremations, and maintenance with precision.
  • Preserve acquired market share and increase market share by actively engaging with the community, religious organizations, or other entities.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of two programs in a specialized college (or technical school) in funeral services or related fields, as required by provincial law and state licensing boards.
  • Experience as a thanatopractitioner, apprentice, or funeral director, as required by provincial law.
  • 2 years of direct experience, preferably.
  • Meet all certification requirements as required by provincial law and state licensing boards.
  • Valid provincial driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Basic knowledge of customs from religious and fraternal organizations.
  • High integrity and great capacity for compassion.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and establish priorities.
  • Attention to detail.
