About the Role

The Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health is an award-winning organization dedicated to providing holistic health services to First Nation, Inuit, and Métis people in Ottawa. We are committed to improving the quality of life for Indigenous community members through culturally safe and supportive care.

This role is critical in establishing an Indigenous approach to palliative care in our region. As an Indigenous Palliative Care Program Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating wrap-around services, developing culturally sensitive care plans, and maintaining connections with sister communities and organizations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement culturally sensitive care plans that support clients and families in their end-of-life journey.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community organizations to ensure traditional and ceremonial protocols are respected.
  • Coordinate with healthcare settings to provide culturally safe and supportive care.
  • Identify resources and support systems for clients and families, including traditional knowledge keepers and helpers.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience in cultural practices related to Indigenous palliative care.
  • Degree or diploma in Social Service Work, Social Work, Community Support, or Geriatric Training (asset).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on empathy and compassion.
  • Experience working with large-scale quality improvement initiatives (asset).
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Driver's License and eligibility for a Driver's Abstract.
  • Successful completion of Vulnerable Sector Screening within one month of employment.
