About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Palliative Pain and Symptom Management Consultant to join our team at Victorian Order of Nurses.
Job Summary:
The successful candidate will provide support in enhancing the competency of front-line service providers and developing resources and infrastructure through knowledge exchange. Key responsibilities include performing full case reviews, providing seminars and workshops on palliative care topics, connecting organizations with evidence-based resources, participating in hospice palliative care committees, and supporting standardized palliative care education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance Competency: Provide consultation, education, mentorship, and create linkages to palliative care resources, contributing to strategic planning and healthcare system development activities as an expert advisor.
- Clinical Expertise: Perform full case reviews or answer case-specific questions to assist service providers in managing pain and other end-of-life symptoms for their clients.
- Educational Initiatives: Develop and deliver educational programs on topics relevant to organizational objectives or professional development goals of front-line providers.
- Resource Connection: Connect organizations and professionals with existing evidence-based resources and supports, including materials that can be passed along to clients and caregivers as part of regular clinical practice or used by professionals for self-study.
- Committee Engagement: Participate in various hospice palliative care committees focusing on local and regional planning, clinical issues, advocacy, and integration with other sectors of the healthcare system.
- Education and Training: Support standardized palliative care education with the goal of increasing the number of professionals and volunteers receiving advanced training and certifications in end-of-life care.
- Strategic Partnerships: Participate in regional strategic planning exercises and Palliative Care Consultant Network meetings.
Required Qualifications:
- Nursing Degree: Member in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) within scope of practice RN/RN(EC).
- Certifications: Certification in hospice palliative care or equivalency in knowledge, skill, and experience; Canadian Nurse Association (CNA) Certification: Hospice Palliative Care Nursing/ CHPCN(C), Oncology Nursing /CON(C), and Community Health Nursing/ CCHN(C).
- Work Experience: Minimum five (5) years of nursing experience in hospice palliative care including current clinical expertise in palliative and end-of-life pain and symptom management.
- Skills: Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills; ability to facilitate adult education for various health disciplines; advance level assessment; crisis management; problem-solving; written and verbal communication skills; collaboration; relationship building; change management; cross-cultural sensitivity; MS Office Suite skills.
