Clinical Dietitian Specialist, Renal Healthcare

Overview of the Position
We are seeking a skilled and experienced dietitian to join our renal care team at Fraser Health.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide clinical and educational support to dietitians within the renal portfolio of Fraser Health.
- Liaise with and act as a clinical resource for other renal healthcare professionals.
- Conduct research related to renal nutrition and provide research and quality improvement support to renal dietitians.
- Act as a clinical dietetic resource to dietitians and other healthcare professionals regarding dietetic best practice.
- Support the development and knowledge translation of renal nutrition specific Clinical Decision Support Tools (CDST).
- Support current practice and departmental change by identifying and initiating quality improvement activities.
- Participate in skill assessment and development of staff.
- Keep up to date with and critically evaluate recent renal related nutrition research.
Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related discipline from a recognized educational institution.
- Successful completion of an approved dietetic internship program.
- Five years recent related experience in renal related area of practice, including one year experience in supervisory/leadership role.
- Current registration with the College of Dietitians of BC and Restricted Acts A and B preferred.
- Valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes as required.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the etiology of renal disease and renal therapy practice.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize nutrition related concerns for patients/clients with multiple medical conditions.
- Demonstrated skills in food preparation and nutrient composition, medication/nutrient interactions, relevant metabolic changes in response to renal disease.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and understanding of the psycho-social economic considerations of end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
- Demonstrated counseling skills to effect a change in eating behaviour.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to teach individuals and groups.
- Ability to work effectively with others within a multidisciplinary environment.
