Northern Alberta Primary Care Paramedic Opportunity

Ashley is a brand new facility located beside the Ashley Community Health Centre. This facility serves as the hub for EMS operations in the North Zone, providing access to remote areas and communities through our state-of-the-art ambulances and equipment.
As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) with Alberta Health Services (AHS), you will have the opportunity to work in a diverse and dynamic environment, assessing emergency scenes and patients, and transporting ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. You will be required to operate ambulances or other modes of transportation, administer minor medications, basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and semi-automated defibrillation. In addition, you will lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes.
The working environment for a PCP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will need to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g. backcountry) with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The working conditions for a PCP are also physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105lbs, while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must be able to endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. Additionally, you must stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side-carry up to 20lbs in each hand and assume awkward positions.
To be successful in this role, you must hold non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as an Primary Care Paramedic (PCP). You must also possess Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). A valid class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent is required, along with a five (5) year driver abstract current within six (6) months with no more than six (6) demerits prior to commencing work. You must also provide proof of the successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization. Please note that applicants who already hold a clinical position within AHS EMS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP, and Community Paramedic) do not need to complete this test.
