We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Development Services Inspector to join our team at the Regional District of Central Okanagan. As a key member of our Development Services Team, you will play a vital role in enforcing building codes, reviewing building permit applications, and conducting building inspections.

About the Role

This is a 6-month term part-time position that works between 14-28 hours per week. You will be responsible for:

  • Interpreting building codes and related bylaws with the public, including owners, tradespeople, and Registered Professionals;
  • Reviewing building permit applications for compliance with building codes, related bylaws, standards, and regulations;
  • Organizing daily inspections to ensure efficient and effective service delivery;
  • Conducting building inspections as per BOABC Level I certification (single-family residences and secondary suites) in accordance with building bylaw requirements;
  • Enforcing compliance with building codes and related bylaws through monitoring inspection areas, issuing stop work orders, removal orders, and demolition orders;
  • Coordinating building activity by creating and maintaining accurate records of inspection decisions, communicating with building owners and stakeholders, and monitoring current files for scheduled inspections and deficiency corrections;
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • 2 years of experience in building and plumbing inspection;
  • Sustainable building standards knowledge, preferably within local government regulation;
  • Level 1 BOABC and POABC Certification;
  • Journeyman level certificate in a related trade;
  • Excellent communication skills to convey necessary information to the public, professionals, and staff;
  • Proficiency in MS Office and working experience in computer database software such as Vadim;
  • A valid BC Driver's License with a record of safe driving.
