We are seeking a skilled Food and Beverage Server to join our team at Hornblower Cruises and Events.

This role is based in Niagara, where you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service while selling and upselling food, beverage, and retail items to our guests. You will work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that all guests receive prompt service on land and on water.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in serving roles, preferably in the hospitality industry. Smart Serve certification is required, as well as proficiency in POS cash registers and cash handling. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests in a polite and pleasant manner, answering questions about Niagara Falls and other local attractions
  • Take and serve food and beverage orders in a timely manner, ensuring that guests receive prompt service
  • Responsible for all sales transactions from selling food, beverage, and retail items to cash reconciling in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Upsell items to guests that would best accompany the type of boat experience or food and beverage items they are purchasing
  • Expert knowledge of retail offerings, food and beverage menu items, and food ingredients
  • Execute all opening and closing activities, including stocking, replenishing, wiping, sweeping, and other duties as required to maintain an appealing, hygienic, healthy, and safe environment for staff and guests

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education as recognized by the Ministry of Education
  • 1-2 years of serving experience in the food and beverage industry, preferably in a hospitality environment
  • Smart Serve certification
  • Proficiency in POS cash registers, cash handling, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and troubleshooting skills in a fast-paced work environment
  • Familiarity with Alcohol and Food regulations, laws, and practices
  • Knowledge of another language in addition to English is preferred

Educational Requirements:

Physical Demands:

The ideal candidate must be able to work in various environments, including indoor and outdoor settings. They must be able to stand for long periods, walk, and perform tasks that require lifting up to 20 pounds (10 kilograms). The candidate must also be able to work in all types of weather conditions.

Work Environment:

This role involves working in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interactions with guests and colleagues. The ideal candidate must be able to adapt to changing situations and prioritize tasks effectively.

Salary Range:

$15.00 - $18.00 per hour, depending on experience
