Job Summary

The Manitoba Government is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mitigation and Adaptation Forester to join our team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a key member of our Forestry and Peatlands Branch, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies related to boreal forest management and renewal practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement climate change mitigation and adaptation policies and projects.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform policy development and project implementation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous peoples and communities to ensure effective collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to colleagues and stakeholders on climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in climate change mitigation and adaptation, and apply this knowledge to inform policy and project development.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in forestry, natural resource management, environmental management, or biological sciences.
  • Experience developing and implementing climate change mitigation and adaptation activities related to boreal forest management and renewal practices.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating climate change policies relating to boreal forests and/or peatlands.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and report preparation.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines.

Working Conditions

  • Must be willing and able to travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via truck, all-terrain vehicle, boat, and by rotary or fixed wing aircraft.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent from other provinces without any restrictions.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime when required, and work out-of-town for extended periods with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels, and tents.
